Session Summary:
IRC used audio computer assisted self-interviewing technology to survey adolescent girls in humanitarian contexts in Ethiopia and the DRC about their experiences of violence. The technology allowed us to hear on a large scale the voices of the girls who are usually excluded, in populations of low literacy and unwritten languages. Findings revealed stark differences between the public discourses around violence and its perpetrators, and the private truths girls face in and around their homes.
